Taylor Weight Loss and Nutrition Clinic started February 1, 2016. It was started by Bruce E. Taylor, MD in an effort to help decrease the epidemic of obesity in the blackbelt area. Being overweight or obese is a major risk factor for developing a lot of medical problems that lead to health complications and decreased life expectancy. Diabetes, joint pain, hypertension, sleep apnea and heart disease are more likely to occur in people who are overweight or obese.
Our Healthy Kids program is designed to help children as young as 8 years old lose weight to help get them off to a healthy, active and productive life. With diabetes and the beginning stages of heart disease being found in children at a younger age than ever before, we want to stem this tide right now. Weight loss has been shown to also help young people bolster self-esteem.
Dr. Taylor received a bachelor of science degree in Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham(UAB) in 1994. In 1995 he received a master’s degree in public health with a concentration on epidemiology from UAB. He earned his medical degree from UAB in 2000. His residency in internal medicine was at Princeton and Montclair Hospitals within the Baptist Hospital System in Birmingham, AL from June 2000 to May 2003. He has been in practice since 2003 in Selma, AL.
